Debbie Edwards, LVT: I have been a Licensed Veterinary Technician since 2001, after graduating from the veterinary technician program at Macomb Community College and becoming licensed by the state of Michigan.

My introduction to working in the veterinary field started when I worked as a kennel attendant at a local small, mixed animal practice, that also had a boarding facility. While working there, I later became a veterinary assistant, working alongside a wonderful team of technicians. It was then that I discovered that I wanted to have a career as a technician myself.

Over the years, I have found working in veterinary medicine to be a rewarding career path, even more so after joining the team at Cat Care. I feel very fortunate to be able to share my days with feline companions at home and work. Working at a feline exclusive clinic has been and continues to be a wonderful experience.

Jessica Shimmell, LVT: I have had a passion for animals since I could walk, but there was one woman in my life that made me realize that I wanted to make a career out of it. I worked at her six stall barn throughout high school. She had a horse with constant colic, and it took a lot of work to keep him alive.

I realized at that moment I wanted to help heal animals, so I started my adventure of becoming a licensed veterinary technician straight out of high school. I graduated in 2008 from Macomb Community College with my Associate degree in Science and then became licensed as a veterinary technician.

I've been working in the field for about five years now. I started as a kennel assistant and worked my way up to a Licensed Veterinary Technician.

I've been at Cat Care for eight months and really enjoy it here. I would not want to have any other career then what I have now; it's very rewarding working with animals.

Lynn Walters, LVT: I graduated from the Veterinary Technician program at Macomb Community College and have been working with animals for over ten years. My very first job was at Best Friends Pet Resort; I was there for five years. After I left Best Friends, I got my first job at a veterinary clinic as an assistant. I absolutely fell in love with helping nurse animals back to health. I enjoyed working with cats and wanted to pursue working in a feline only clinic which lead me to Cat Care.

My husband and I have three furry children; my oldest is Roscoe, who is a Siberian Husky. Hooie looks like a Maine Coon and is the middle child. Last but not least is the baby, Tinkerbell. She is a domestic medium hair.

I love working with cats and feel honored to experience meeting owners who love and adore their feline friends as much as I do.

Becky Ohler, Receptionist: My name is Becky and I am a receptionist and veterinary assistant at Cat Care. I have been here for six years.

I have always had a strong passion for animals. No matter where I am, if there is an animal in need, I will do the most I am capable of. Whether I am at Cat Care assisting our clients or even if I am driving down the street and see a stray pet or wild animal in need, I will try to help. In fact, if I could take in every stray, I would!

I have six wonderful, fun cats and one loyal canine. All of my pets are my family and nothing less.

Tina Preston, Receptionist: Hi! I'm part of the reception team at Cat Care. I am married and have two children. I've been here for almost a year and really enjoy working with such a great group of people! I have also really enjoyed getting to know all of our wonderful clients and their pets.

I have loved animals all my life. I have five cats. Peanut is a very mild mannered kitty. He loves to cuddle and play fetch! Domino is a real character and is always doing something hilarious! Next is Cute Baby who is very talkative and loves to chase Domino around for fun when he's in a silly mood! Ty and Mini are litter mates. Ty is the sweetest being I have every known! He's never met someone he didn't love and if he could, he would cuddle 24 hours a day! When Mini isn't cuddling or playing with Ty, she's my little shadow. I think she's the cutest thing there ever was, but that may be because I'm the only person in the house she likes!

I also have two dogs. Leroy is a Labrador/Husky mix and is starting to get older, so he mainly enjoys lying around the house. Bailey, my German Shepherd, loves to chase the ball outside and go swimming in the lake.

I love having all of my pets because they help make my house a home.

Carol Suggs, Receptionist: My love for animals has been in my blood since I can remember. I have three cats; Nikko is my Japanese Bobtail, Leo is my brown tabby and Emily is my sassy tortie. I also have a Labrador mix and two 2-footed children, Connor and Jack. I love working here and I feel lucky to have an extended family with all of our feline patients.

My kids, 4-footed and 2-footed, keep me pretty busy and I am never lonely; there's always a cat handy for a lap visit!

I look forward to caring for your furry friends as if they were my own!

Amanda Martin, Veterinary Assistant: I am a veterinary assistant here at Cat Care, but will be returning to Lake Superior State University to finish my last semester for my Bachelors of Science in Wildlife Management.

I have two cats of my own at home, Franklin, a domestic short hair, and Hewie, a domestic medium hair. I love my cats and they have seen me through my junior and senior year at LSSU.

After I graduate, I hope to return to Cat Care and work towards my Veterinary Technician license before I return to school for my Masters in Wildlife Biology.

Courtney Neynaber, Veterinary Assistant: Currently, I am a veterinary assistant, but working towards my veterinary technician's license from Macomb Community College.

I have my cat Chi, a four year old domestic short hair, who is all black with yellow eyes. I also have my pet mouse who is a Chinese Dwarf Hamster; interestingly, it is the closest species to a mouse because of their tail. Believe it or not, Chi doesn't try to eat him, he just carefully watches and sniffs!

Gabrielle Burnett, Practice Manager: I absolutely love cats and currently share my home with five wonderful kitties.

I graduated from Oakland University with a Bachelors in Anthropology and a minor in Biology; my intention was to become an archaeologist, but I could never bring myself to leave the veterinary field of medicine!

I started working in the kennel area in veterinary clinics ten years ago. I went on to become a veterinary assistant, then practice manager. I joined the Cat Care team in 2004 and still find my job challenging and fulfilling.

In my spare time, I enjoy swimming and other physical activities, going to the movies and I'm an avid reader.
