We feel our primary responsibility is to help you keep your cat as healthy as possible. The object of preventative medicine is to protect your cat from disease and to identify potential problems early. We recommend the following preventative care on an annual basis.
The first six months of a kitten's life is extremely important in determining life-long health. Preventative medicine is most important at this time. The initial health examination should begin at no older than six to eight weeks of age. A complete physical examination is performed by the veterinarian at each visit. A health plan will be outlined on the kitten's first visit that will include recommendations for testing, vaccinations, behavioral counseling, sterilizing, and possibly declawing.
At Cat Care we consider most cats over 10 years of age to be geriatric. Geriatric health exams are recommended a minimum of once every six months, and more often if chronic disease is present. Many diseases can be treated much more effectively if they are diagnosed at an early stage. The types of disease we routinely encounter are kidney failure, hyperthyroidism, diabetes, cancer, arthritis, and inflammatory bowel disease.
Cats are experts at hiding signs of illness. Therefore diagnostic tests are often relied upon to help define health problems. All procedures are performed with the intent to reduce stress in our patients and to provide rapid, accurate results.
